Aside from the aforementioned chuckle-headed script, the acting in Point Break is maybe the most offensive thing of all. Where Core succeeds in cinematography, he outright fails as the overall director of the piece. Seen in 3D, there are some mighty impressive sights to behold, all filmed with elaborate flair from someone that obviously knows what he’s doing. There’s some praise to be had here, though, and that has to do with Core’s thrilling cinematography that takes audiences through mountains, waves, alpine slopes, and through the streets of its European locations. Making the film less about robberies and more about conservation of resources, it becomes a new age-y garbage dump of plot holes and extended action sequences that feel far too long. The film strays so far from its source material that I almost wished it had ditched the title and went on its own merry path, shrugging off obvious comparisons to certain touchstone elements of the original. Lines between right and wrong get blurred for a period until it disintegrates into a stilted chase picture that wants to fly but never takes wing. It brings him on a globe-trotting adventure where he forges a sort of kinship with the adrenaline junkies and their leader, Bodhi. Morphing from his extreme sports career to an FBI trainee in danger of being cut, Utah discovers a connection between a series of bank robberies and the test of the wills sort of vision quest he believes the burglars to be embarking upon.īefore you know it, Utah (remember, he’s not even a full FBI agent yet) is given carte blanche by his superior (Delroy Lindo, phoning it in like a pro) to cozy up to the men he believes are behind the daring swindles. Opening with a stunt sequence that changes the career course for extreme action star Johnny “Utah” (we learn Utah is his nickname, related to his Native American heritage…oy), it features an accident handled so awkwardly it’s hard to fathom how it winds up playing such a big part of Utah’s later mission with the FBI. It’s an abysmally conceived action film with hardly any action that winds up taking itself so seriously that you can’t help but laugh every time a character waxes poetic about nature and our place in the ecosystem of life. Moved from an intended summer release date to Christmas Day, instead of riding the wave to holiday thrills this remake is hanging ten on my worst of the year list. If only they had quit while they were ahead. Add in a script updated by Kurt Wimmer (who also delivered a new treatment for Total Recall in 2012), lock in some hunky but cheap talent, and decide to release it in 3D and call it a day. And I can imagine that the studio heads over at Warner Brothers cooed when they hired director Ericson Core to not only direct the film but serve as the cinematographer as well. The original wasn’t so much of a blockbuster that it felt untouchable and its slight cult status in the years following its release didn’t give off a feeling that a remake would be outright condemned. So yeah, I kind of get why a remake of Point Break looked somewhat appealing. That it was helmed by a female director (future Best Director Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow) with more macho bravado than any five films directed by her male peers only made it more of an attractive property over the years, strangely fascinating with each subsequent viewing. It’s very much a product of its time and capitalized on what both stars brought to the table, the laid-back (nigh sleepy) performance of Reeves and the dangerous-but-I’d-still-like-to-be-his-friend vibe Swayze was great at delivering. Now, let’s not fool ourselves into thinking that that Keanu Reeves/Patrick Swayze led action film was any kind of classic. In retrospect, calling that early preview ‘kinda fun’ makes me shiver in my snowboots that I ever truly had faith that the 2015 Point Break could ever hold a candle to the original from 1991. Review: When the first trailer for this remake surfaced back in May, I went against the popular opinon that decried its very existence and said “here’s hoping the boys of summer bring some heat to the holidays.” Little did I know that the heat I was hoping for came in the form of pure fury. Stars: Édgar Ramírez, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Delroy Lindo, Ray Winstone “Point Break” is inspired by the classic 1991 hit. Synopsis: A young FBI agent infiltrates an extraordinary team of extreme sports athletes he suspects of masterminding a string of unprecedented, sophisticated corporate heists.

You get to pick the topic and everything, but I wish there was more. I wish there was a bit more freedom to the trailers. I just wish it didn’t add it to my photos in general. You finish the movie, save to photos, then you can delete all the snippets from your photos. And I hate that! And to make it worse, when I delete them, I can’t watch that part I filmed in the movie cause I deleted it. I don't know if there is anything you can do about this, but whenever I record little snippets for a movie, they save to my photos. But, there are a few things that I wish would change. Indeed, while some of these “crypto-native” projects that lack intrinsic value and use could reiterate or even exacerbate the same systemic inequities cities are trying to address, other more nascent and less well-known attempts that adopt a community-centered approach suggest alternative paths forward that could more thoughtfully tackle urban challenges through technology.ĭrawing from a combination of gray literature review, archival analysis, semi-structured interviews with founding teams of some selected projects, and digital ethnography of online activities, we have mapped a landscape of current projects in this field. Our investigation and evaluation will delve into cases that represent both top-down and community-oriented approaches, uncovering the potential benefits and pitfalls of combining Web3 technologies with the time-honored custom of community currency as place-based solutions to address urban challenges concerning public financing, local economic stimulation, and community engagement. In this paper, we will survey the recent landscape of community currencies powered by cryptocurrency and Web3 technologies. As we consider the possibilities of community currencies powered by crypto, we ask: Are they just a temporary fad that poses potential risks and little value, or do they hold the potential to truly offer a synergistic solution to the problems facing cities today? Could they digitally revolutionize the age-old practice of local community currency and elevate public purpose value and social impact? With a rich history rooted in times of economic turmoil, community currencies offer both inspiring success stories and cautionary tales of the challenges that lie ahead as cities navigate the evolving financial landscape. cities such as New York City, Jackson, Tampa Bay, Miami, and Austin made headlines by openly endorsing cryptocurrencies and embracing the idea of city-branded tokens in hopes of unlocking alternative ways of fundraising and boosting local economic growth during the crypto market’s heyday. Over the last two years, mayors from major U.S. In the wake of the pandemic, a resurgent interest in community currencies-now powered by blockchain and Web3 technologies-is reshaping the way cities approach local financing and engagement of their constituents. Although these community currencies have never become mainstream practice throughout history, they have repeatedly risen in popularity during times of economic crisis or instability. Tailored to specific geographic areas, local community currencies are alternative monetary systems designed to empower local businesses and foster engagement while promoting a greater sense of unity of a place. In Walter Scott's 1820 novel The Abbot, a character observes that "yonder stands Auld Reekie-you may see the smoke hover over her at twenty miles' distance". The city is affectionately nicknamed Auld Reekie, Scots for Old Smoky, for the views from the country of the smoke-covered Old Town. Nicknames Surgeons' Hall, one of the Greek Revival buildings that earned Edinburgh the nickname "Athens of the North" In Scottish Gaelic din becomes dùn, producing modern Dùn Èideann. As the language shifted from Cumbric to Northumbrian Old English and then Scots, the Brittonic din in Din Eidyn was replaced by burh, producing Edinburgh. A siege of Din Eidyn by Oswald, king of the Angles of Northumbria in 638 marked the beginning of three centuries of Germanic influence in south east Scotland that laid the foundations for the development of Scots, before the town was ultimately subsumed in 954 by the kingdom known to the English as Scotland. This stronghold is believed to have been located at Castle Rock, now the site of Edinburgh Castle. The district of Eidyn was centred on the stronghold of Din Eidyn, the dun or hillfort of Eidyn. "Edin", the root of the city's name, derives from Eidyn, the name for the region in Cumbric, the Brittonic Celtic language formerly spoken there. The city is in the Lothian region and was historically part of the shire of Midlothian (also called Edinburghshire). The City of Edinburgh council area had an estimated population of 526,470 in mid-2021, and includes outlying towns and villages which are not part of Edinburgh proper. Įdinburgh is governed by the City of Edinburgh Council, a unitary authority. The city's historical and cultural attractions have made it the UK's second-most visited tourist destination, attracting 4.9 million visits, including 2.4 million from overseas in 2018. Edinburgh's Old Town and New Town together are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which has been managed by Edinburgh World Heritage since 1999. Giles, Greyfriars and the Canongate, and the extensive Georgian New Town built in the 18th/19th centuries. Historic sites in Edinburgh include Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the churches of St. The city is also known for the Edinburgh International Festival and the Fringe, the latter being the world's largest annual international arts festival. The city is a cultural centre, and is the home of institutions including the National Museum of Scotland, the National Library of Scotland and the Scottish National Gallery. It is the second-largest financial centre in the United Kingdom, the fourth largest in Europe, and the thirteenth largest internationally. The University of Edinburgh, founded in 1582 and now one of three in the city, is considered one of the best research institutions in the world. The city has long been a centre of education, particularly in the fields of medicine, Scottish law, literature, philosophy, the sciences and engineering. It is also the annual venue of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. Recognised as the capital of Scotland since at least the 15th century, Edinburgh is the seat of the Scottish Government, the Scottish Parliament, the highest courts in Scotland, and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland. Edinburgh had a population ofĥ06,520 in mid-2020, making it the second-most populous city in Scotland and the seventh-most populous in the United Kingdom. Same instructions as the Armor sheet, this one splits your weapons export first by slot (Primary, Special, Heavy), then sorts by type (AR, Scout, Hand Cannon, etc.), tier (exotic/legendary), and damage type. If someone smarter than I can recommend a better way of doing this, I'm open to suggestions!Įdit: I've finished a version for Weapons as well, available here. I have a bad feeling the query function may not work when downloaded, you may get an error and need to redirect the link on your computer. I have way too much gear hoarded at the moment and wanted an easier tool to compare multiple items and see what perks are more/less useful. Maybe you'll find this useful, maybe not. If you've done everything right, and assuming I gave adequate instructions and didn't break things uploading it, you should now have 4 spreadsheets filtered by class, sorted by slot/rarity/LL, like this: Click to one of the spreadsheet tabs at the bottom (Hunter, Titan, Warlock, or Ghost), then under the Data tab at the top, click Refresh All. Once you've imported the information, you should have your gear listed in a mind numbing format in columns A-U. This is in the Formulas tab under Define Name in Excel. Update the Named Range "armordata" to cover the full range of the text you just imported. txt file, then import into Excel in the "RAW DATA" tab as CSV. Use this script (Reddit link, not direct to script) within the Chrome dev console (F12) in your DIM tab and copy the data generated. I'm sure someone with more spreadsheet savvy can do better than I did, I'm sort of a neanderthal when it comes to Excel magic. So you need to download this spreadsheet and open locally. One major caveat - this is only functional using Excel, as it depends on the Microsoft Query tool built in. It's a little tricky to get the data inserted correctly, but I find it helpful. I wanted a filtered, sortable spreadsheet that I could use to do a little inventory management/vault cleanup, and have difficulty tracking stats and perks across so many pieces of gear. I was tinkering around with Destiny Item Manager and the inventory export script /u/wein3967 created and made a thing. Who finally got a PS4? Norsefenrir! Happy birthday! This is still widely used by managers who don’t know how to get everyone in agreement. Why business jargon is so prone to sporting metaphors is anyone’s guess? Singing from the same hymn sheet It appears many people working in corporate offices are hauling around expensive object-detection systems that use radio waves to determine the range, angle, or velocity of objects. They’re not. Again, anyone who uses this is neither creative or innovative. It means thinking creatively and innovatively. You’ll most likely need a shower on hearing it used at a meeting. This is the terrible way to say ‘let’s come up with several ideas’. This awful phrase means to do something detestable but good for the business. It is used by people with no creative ideas who are constrained by lack of imagination. It means creative ideas free from practical constraints. Avoid it at all costs and avoid people who use it "I don't know where in Maine you can own your own home for that kind of money, and not worry about a landowner kicking you out or raising your rent," Schwebler said. Schwebler said Maine currently has 10 resident-owned communities, where rents for those lots range from $290 to $460 a month. Advocates of the new law say it's intended to preserve an important part of Maine's affordable housing stock. Maine has more than 700 manufactured and mobile home parks. They have stability of the land, and they take pride in that land." "We have people who have stability of their income. "We don't have people who are worrying, 'What's going to happen to me tomorrow?'" she said. Jones said the residents of Mountainside, all over the age of 55, now have autonomy over their own homes and their financial security. Our communities tend to be filled with the elderly people on Social Security, single-parent households." And with no real rent control being here in Maine, outside of Portland, they can come in and do what they will. "Of course some Mainers are investing as well, but we're seeing an awful lot of out-of-state entities as well. "People are putting their properties up for sale," she said. Pat Schwebler, co-director of the New England Resident Owned Communities program for the Cooperative Development Institute, said she has seen an increase in the number of manufactured home communities changing hands. Work is underway to relocate the University of New Englands College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNE COM), Maines only medical school, from its original home. "Our community is located is down the street from Megunticook Lake and up the street from the Atlantic Ocean," Jones said. But not all communities have had the same chance. Mountainside purchased its land four years ago, when its former owner announced plans to retire and presented residents with the idea of collectively buying the property. Margaret Jones, board president for the Mountainside Community Cooperative in Camden, advocated for the law in the Legislature earlier this year. Stephen Antonson: | Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler: sibylcolefax. You must locate at least one joist. It’s one of those things that comes along and asks, “Oh, can you do this?” With plaster, the possibilities are endless.’ ‘I’m making a 14-foot chandelier right now. Sure, I can make a chair for you, but I can’t promise it won’t break.’ This puzzle-like quality of plaster keeps the maker engaged. ‘Plaster blurs the line – it functions and it doesn’t. Ultimately, it is the duality of plaster that appeals to Stephen, who has found success crafting furniture, objects and lighting with the instincts of an artist as opposed to a furniture-maker. Whereas with plaster, you put it on and you have five minutes to make up your mind before it dries.’ Clay doesn’t push back – that would drive me crazy. Instead, he revels in the nature of the material, preferring to work by instinct: ‘I tried ceramics. ‘I hate the words product and merchandising,’ he admits. Then you go into the studio and have to make it with your own hands, thinking, is this stupid or will it work? I always have multiple what-if? projects on the go.’ Stephen shies away from launching fully articulated collections, preferring a more ad hoc approach. Stephen’s atelier is an ideas laboratory as much as a production facility: ‘I have sketchbooks lying around all over the place – I draw, draw, draw, draw. ‘We took one of his standard-model chandeliers, but he was willing to adapt and change the scale so it was the right size and, moreover, he was able to retain its good proportions.’ Roger was so pleased with the result, he commissioned several for Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler’s showroom in Pimlico Road, SW1, where Stephen’s work is now available to buy. He oversees production from beginning to end,’ Roger explains, adding that Stephen’s bespoke capabilities are attractive to an interior designer. ‘I was impressed as he is truly a hands-on craftsman, working on a small scale and making e everything himself. I was once asked, “Why do you get intimate with every piece of furniture?” but it would be so boring to have someone else fabricate a piece.’ His unilateral approach – from concept to execution – makes his work articularly compelling, according to Roger Jones of Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler, who discovered Stephen’s designs while working on a client’s living room in Connecticut and then visited his workshop. Stephen takes a hands-on approach, controlling each piece from start to finish. ‘I can build, paint, draw – I can connect all these dots.’ Serge Roche, Giacometti, John Dickinson – waves of people would pick up the material and redefine what is possible.’ He believes his advantage is in being able to straddle art and design, and move the medium in a new direction. ‘Interest in plaster has ebbed and flowed over time. ‘I walked into this world and found it attractive on so many levels,’ he explains. ‘Visitors would see artwork on the walls, but say: “How much for that chandelier? Could I take this drawing and that pair of lamps?”’ Stephen realised that his accidental foray into plaster had an eager – and profitable – audience in New York’s interior-design community. The erstwhile artist, who dabbled in painting, sculpture and photography after graduating from Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Mellon University and receiving a Master of Fine Arts from Hunter College in New York, would host prospective collectors in his Williamsburg loft. ‘Painting, sculpture, design – it’s a hybrid of all the things I love,’ says Stephen, who began working in the medium some 20 years ago when he made a plaster chandelier for fun. The designer’s sense of humour punctuates the rigorous mood with great éclat in a series of classical busts that collide with a pie to the face. Faux-bois mirrors and angular candlesticks show the breadth of Stephen’s range, from whimsy to modernist. Lithe and large Giacometti-esque chandeliers mingle with muscular and multifaceted tables that appear to be chiselled from densely packed Arctic snow.
